Town of Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba

Water Treatment Plant

The client

Lac du Bonnet (population 2,300) is a scenic town located on the south shore of the Winnipeg River, 100 km northeast of Winnipeg. The area is popular for fishing, canoeing and is enjoyed by residents as well as thousands of cottagers and campers who spend their summer vacations in the area.

The client's needs

However, until recently, the quality of drinking water in Lac du Bonnet was very poor. Colour and disinfection by products often exceeded the Canadian Guidelines levels. Bad taste and odours were common in the warm season. In 2002, the Manitoba Water Services Board evaluated several treatment options and Actiflo® ballasted floc clarification was among them.

Our solution

In 2002, a new water treatment plant was built, with the main treatment process consisting of one Actiflo® clarifier, two Dusenflo® filters, followed by UV disinfection, chlorination and pH adjustment. There is sufficient space to add a second identical train in the future.

TOC removal now exceeds the USEPA enhanced coagulation rule requirements, treated water is crystal clear and tastes great!
